ROTUNDA GALLERY
ABOUT ROTUNDA GALLERY
Located within one of RMCAD’s most architecturally distinct spaces, the Rotunda Gallery presents exhibitions by faculty, alumni, students, and guest artists and designers. The gallery supports concept-driven exhibitions that respond to its unique spatial qualities while contributing to student learning and the college’s broader creative culture. Exhibitions are complemented by artist talks, workshops, class visits, and other public programs that encourage collaboration, conversation, and direct engagement between exhibiting artists, students, and the broader campus communities.
EXHIBITIONS IN THE ROTUNDA GALLERY INCLUDE:
Proposed Faculty Exhibitions
These exhibitions bridge faculty pedagogy with their research and creative practice in a site-responsive context. These exhibitions give students insight into the creative investigations, experimentations, and presentations of their faculty. In this setting, faculty model what they teach and build meaningful relationships with students as peer creatives. Proposed projects include solo and group exhibitions, curatorial or collaborative projects, departmental exhibitions, research-based or experimental projects, and interdisciplinary exhibitions. The request for proposals goes out in the Summer semester.
● Schedule: Fall semester, annually
Guest Artist/Designer Exhibitions
These exhibitions in the Rotunda Gallery function similarly to the Philip J. Steele Gallery. Local and national artists and designers exhibit their work to expand and strengthen students' academic development and to make meaningful connections between the college and external artists, designers, and scholars.
● Schedule: Fall through Spring semesters
Annual Alumni Exhibitions
These are noteworthy exhibitions highlighting RMCAD alums' creative progress and achievement after graduation. The exhibitions model the ongoing education, research, relationship-building, and dedication required to sustain a successful and evolving career. These exhibitions are aspirational models for students, reflections of RMCAD’s pedagogical influence, and a community celebration of art and design. *The Radiance Exhibition takes place in addition to the Annual Alumni Exhibition every 3 years.
● Schedule: Summer semester, annually
Annual Student Symposium Exhibitions
This exhibition corresponds with the prestigious RMCAD Annual Student Research Symposium. Student art and design work presented as part of the Symposium is exhibited in the Rotunda Gallery for audiences to see the work up close and in a gallery setting.
● Schedule: concurrently with the Annual Student Symposium every Spring semester
