Named in honor of RMCAD’s founder, the Philip J. Steele Gallery (PJS) is RMCAD’s flagship exhibition space. As the largest and most visible gallery on campus, it serves as the primary venue for several of the college’s most prestigious presentations of student, faculty, and guest artist work and projects.

Exhibitions are complemented by lectures, artist talks, workshops, class visits, and other public programs that support student, learning, encourage engagement with exhibiting artists, foster dialogue across disciplines, and cultivate connections with contemporary art and design practice.

Graduation Exhibitions

celebrate and showcase the culminating projects of graduating students in a professional gallery environment. This exhibition reflects the diverse practices, perspectives, and approaches cultivated across RMCAD’s academic programs, highlighting the impact of the college’s creative mentorship. Corresponding with senior studio and capstone classes. As one of the most important presentations of student work, these exhibitions shape the rest of the PJS Gallery exhibition schedule.

The Annual Student Exhibition

This is a juried presentation of the strongest student work from across programs and academic year, providing a broad view of current creative investigation and skill development at RMCAD. This exhibition is a significant tradition that has taken place every year since the college’s founding. The timing of this exhibition captures the excitement of the start of the traditional academic year and to introduce the largest incoming cohort with the best student work across degree programs.

Schedule - Fall A, annually

The Biennial Faculty + Staff Exhibition

presents the creative expertise and active art, design, and research practices of faculty and staff. This curated exhibition highlights the professional work and research that directly and indirectly inform curricular and co-curricular pedagogy and shares that exceptional work with the community.

Schedule - Spring Semester, every other year

Guest Artist/Designer Exhibitions

These exhibitions present compelling and timely work and projects by local and national artists and designers. These exhibitions expand and strengthen students' academic development through direct experience with diverse creative ideas, approaches, and practices. As a dynamic connecting point between the college and external artists, designers, and scholars, these exhibitions position RMCAD as a contributor and shaper of contemporary art discourse. These exhibitions alternate with the Biennial Faculty + Staff Exhibition. The Spring exhibition is a collaboration with the VASD Program.
