6th Annual Symposium

Group exhibition

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION

The intersections of people, place, and time are in constant flux. As artists andresearchers, we are often defined by the frames through which we view the world – but what happens when those frames are shifted, dismantled, or rebuilt?

Welcome to the exhibition of the 6th Annual RMCAD Student Research Symposium. This year, we invite you to engage with the theme RECONTEXTUALIZE. Through a diverse range of disciplines, our student scholars explore how shifting our lens impacts the way we create, understand, and communicate.

To recontextualize is to breathe new life into existing ideas. It is an act of intellectual and creative alchemy – taking the familiar and placing it within a new environment to reveal new understandings. In this gallery, you will see research transformed into visual and tactile experiences.

As you move through the exhibition, we invite you to ask:

  • How does a change in material or environment alter the meaning of an object or idea?

  • In what ways does our personal history inform how we recontextualize?

This exhibition is a testament to the rigor and curiosity of the RMCAD community. By looking at the world through a different lens, these artists encourage us to reconsider what we think we know and to find new meaning in the spaces between people, place, and time.
