INSTITUTE FOR NEW FEELING

FEELING NEW

WITH THEIR NEW PERFUME LINE, A COLLECTION OF AIR QUALITIES

Thursday, November 3, 2016

About the Lecture

Institute for New Feeling presented the conceptual framework of their three-person collaboration and how its structure fosters the exploration of new ways of feeling, and ways of feeling new. Presenting a number of diverse media projects –including video, virtual reality, SEO marketing, wellness products, and therapy sessions –their work borrows from the language of corporate branding, new age healing, mainstream medicine, and the health and beauty industry. Institute highlighted recent projects that investigate “wellness” as a shifting, slippery intersection of capitalism, technological innovation, and the body. Alongside this lecture, the Institute allowed attendees to sample their new perfume line, A Collection of Air Qualities.
This event also included a short post-lecture reception with the artists.

Touch Things with 50% Less Pressure: Workshop with Institute for New Feeling
Friday, November 4, 2016
In this workshop, RMCAD students created a home remedy, inspired by the structure of Fluxus scores, YouTube tutorials, eHow articles, and the IfNf’s Felt Book. Projects ranged from a single sentence instructional, to an image, a video, or web-based interaction. Each student was asked to take on the Institute for New Feeling’s mission statement: to explore "new ways of feeling, and ways of feeling new." Students exchanged their remedies with each other to be enacted during and after the workshop.
